When I was little, I had a picture book titled, Jennie's Hat, by Ezra Jack Keats. I loved it. (My name was also spelled, "Jennie.")  The story was about a little girl who was disappointed when she received an ordinary hat from her aunt. She was hoping for something fancier and even tried to make one out of a basket. In the end, with the help of some "friends," her dream of owning a beautiful hat comes true. I have created several paintings of women with large flower hats and until recently, I hadn't been able to pinpoint my inspiration.
