The inspiration for this piece began when I saw an image of a woman walking in a desert, wearing a kimono. I decided to create my own version of such a woman. The kimono is my design. It is a combination of stencils and freehand. I wanted her to look sort of Bohemian, so I gave her long hair and dangling earrings. During my first draft, I painted her walking in grass, but it wasn't right. As soon as I changed it to a river, I began to "feel" something. I didn't know where this was going, but then I saw the Maya Angelou quote and it all made sense to me. She is strong, yet vulnerable. "She goes where she will." She is free.

She Goes Where She Will
“A Woman in harmony with her spirit is like a river flowing. She goes where she will without pretense and arrives at her destination prepared to be herself and only herself. ”
