My purpose for painting the “That’s Not Ladylike” series is to bring to light gender stereotypes facing women. I was a little hesitant to paint this subject because I wasn't certain it fit my purpose. So I did some reading. Here are a few of things I learned:

  1. Yes, there exists a sexist double standard when it comes to the use of marijuana.
  2. New data reveals that more women are smoking weed, choosing cannabis over alcohol (weed over wine…light buds over bud light).
  3. Successful career women who smoke weed have been nicknamed,“Stiletto Stoners.”
  4. There ARE men who think women pot smokers make perfect mates.
  5. Chefs are using marijuana in fine dining recipes.
  6. Only a female marijuana plant makes flowers/buds that contain a usable amount of THC. Male marijuana plants only make pollen sacs that they use to fertilize the females.
