Several years ago, I
was challenged by a friend to set aside my fear of failure
and attend to
the creative urge swimming inside me.
He loaned me his brushes, paints
and gave me a canvas.
That day changed me forever.
I
find pure pleasure in the act of
painting - the movement of paint on a canvas,
the mistakes that can change a
piece for the better,
the constant problem solving, the
unknown end and even the smell of the paint.
My paintings are simple,
whimsical, colorful, and often accidental.
I play in the paint to create
unlikely shadows and occasionally hide objects.
I am inspired by poetry, music,
people, moods, objects in my home and art.
I paint to learn who I am.
In 2001, although still
an emerging artist, I was selected
to illustrate a children’s book for the
Butterfly Pavilion.
It is titled, Morpha, A
Rainforest Story
published by Colorado Mountain Club Press in Golden.
I was selected to do
the illustration work for another children's book,
Jesus from A to Z, released in 2009
I have exhibited my paintings in
several Colorado art galleries,
in “on-line” shows, in restaurants
and spas.
My work is currently available
exclusively through
The Muse Fine Art Gallery in
Denver, Colorado.
I have no formal art training.
My education includes Bachelor of Arts degrees in elementary education and
special education
from the University of Northern Colorado
and a Master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of
Colorado at Denver.
I am currently one of the coordinators of Aurora’s gifted and talented
program
in Aurora Public Schools. I reside in Aurora, CO with my husband and two
children.
